Tucson's 'Movies in the Park' kicks off Friday

Get those folding chairs ready: Movies in the Park is kicking off its 15th season Friday night at Reid Park.

In 2003, Cox Communications launched Movies in the Park with a projector and a repurposed bed sheet, but in the years that followed it's become much more of an event.

Starting at 6 p.m., attendees will have access to food vendors, live music, jumping castles, and arts and crafts exhibits, leading up to the free showing of Disney's "Wall-E" at 7:45 p.m.

The event is located at the Demeester Performing Arts Center at Reid Park, 920 S. Concert Pl., at the northeast corner of South Country Club Road and East 22nd Street. Attendees can gain access to the event through the Country Club Road entrance.

No chairs will be provided, so attendees will need to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs. People are welcome to bring their own refreshments, although food trucks will be open throughout the showing for those who would rather buy their movie snacks or dinner on site.

Movies in the Park will be happening the first Friday of the month through September, with different activities highlighted each month, including community demonstrations, special guest appearances and fun activities for children.

The movie schedule for the rest of the summer is:

Friday, June 2: "Moana"

Friday, July 7: "The Secret Life of Pets"

Friday, August 1: "Zootopia"

Friday, Sept. 1: "Finding Dory"
